Save Congleton Fair

We the undersigned petition the council to We call upon Cheshire East Council to reconsider the proposed charge of £7,000 for the use of Congleton Fairground by the operators of Congleton Fair. We ask the Council to publish a clear breakdown explaining how the proposed charge has been calculated and to enter into discussions with the fair operator to agree a reasonable and proportionate charge that allows this historic Congleton tradition to continue.

Congleton Fair has been enjoyed by generations of local families and is an important part of the town's heritage and community life.

The fair operator has previously paid approximately £1,200 for use of the site. A proposed increase to £7,000 represents an extraordinary rise and risks making the event financially unviable.

Residents accept that reasonable charges may need to increase, but an increase of this magnitude should be supported by a clear and transparent explanation.

We believe Cheshire East Council should work constructively with the operator to protect the future of Congleton Fair rather than risk losing a much-loved local tradition.
