Upgrade the Queens Park Drive width restriction to a Zebra Crossing

We the undersigned petition the council to urgently assess and upgrade the existing width restriction on Queens Park Drive, located directly between the Queen's Park gates and the main car park, to a formal zebra crossing.

Currently, this traffic calming measure lines up directly with the car park and the park entrance, making it the primary crossing point for families, children, elderly residents, and park visitors. However, its current design creates severe ambiguity. Many drivers mistakenly believe it is a pedestrian right-of-way and yield, while others drive straight through. This unpredictability is incredibly dangerous, particularly for children or the elderly who may step out expecting a vehicle to stop. Because the physical infrastructure to narrow the road is already in place, formally upgrading this specific pinch point to a zebra crossing offers a highly cost-effective safety upgrade for the council. It will eliminate ambiguity by giving pedestrians walking from the car park a clear, legal right of way. Furthermore, it will reinforce the existing traffic calming, ensuring the width restriction successfully builds a habit of drivers slowing down on the approach to the car park.
