The signal-controlled junction at Biddulph Road, Leek Road and
Reade’s Lane in the Mossley area of Congleton currently has
no pedestrian crossing facilities, despite serving large numbers of
people each day. Many of these pedestrians are young children
attending Mossley Primary School, who must cross busy roads without
the safety of any pedestrian crossing facilities in the area.
This situation is unsafe. Families currently must dash across
between green-light phases, hoping that no vehicles accelerate
through as the lights change. Others avoid the junction, crossing
further away, having to wait long periods for a safe gap in traffic
on these busy roads. There are families who choose to drive to
avoid the current danger of crossing these busy roads on their way
to school.
After numerous near misses, action is urgently needed. Installing
Puffin Crossing equipment at this junction would provide a safe,
controlled way for children and families to cross, preventing a
serious accident before it happens.
