To consider a request for permission under the Congleton Market Charter to hold a market in Biddulph.

Decision:

That permission be given under the Council’s Congleton Market Charter for Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to hold a market in the town of Biddulph on the first Friday of each month for a period of five years, from 1 August 2013 and that this permission be reviewed at the end of that period.

Minutes:

Consideration was given to a request from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to hold an artisan market in Biddulph on the first Friday of each month.  The permission requested needed to be considered under the Congleton Market Charter.

Citi Markets which operates a market in Congleton in premises owned by the Council did not object to the application but asked that it be reviewed after one or two years.

In considering the application, and the period after which it should be reviewed, the Portfolio Holder considered that a period of five years would be an adequate period of time; the decision to be made was therefore amended accordingly.
