On 20 June 2024, the Highways and Transport Committee approved proposals to spend the Council’s allocation of DfT BSIP+ phase 3 funding and delegated the authority to spend the funding to the Director of Transport and Infrastructure, in consultation with the Enhanced Partnership Board. The estimated costs of implementing a set of proposals were provided. This included an allocation of £200,000 of capital funding to be spent on Bus Priority Infrastructure.
As the original BSIP+ funding allocation was 100% revenue, the expectation at the time of the Committee meeting was that authority would need to be requested from the DfT to change the funding from revenue to capital. Following a policy decision by central Government, the DfT has removed the need to request this permission, devolving such spending decisions to Local Transport Authorities.
Following further investigation, the A534 Nantwich Road corridor in Crewe has been recommended as the highest priority location for bus priority infrastructure. The preferred solution is to install intelligent bus detection cameras along the A534 Nantwich Road in Crewe, between the junction with A5078 Edleston Road and the roundabout junction with Crewe Road and the A532.
The recommended location and preferred solution were endorsed by the BSIP Enhanced Partnership Board at its meeting on 14 November 2024.
The investment required in the preferred solution is £250,000, an increase of £50,000 over the initial estimate of £200,000.
