Proposals were considered to identify a suitable partner/sponsor for the establishment of an Autism Spectrum Condition Special School in Cheshire East. The proposal arose as the result of a review, commenced in 2010, of arrangements for children and young people with special Educational Needs and Disability. An outline business case for the proposal in principle was approved by the Cabinet in November 2011 but, in February this year, changes were made to the Education Inspections Act 2006 part 2 whereby any Local Authority seeking to establish a new school is now under a statutory duty to seek proposals to establish an Academy or Free School in the first instance.
RESOLVED
That approval be given to identify and support the proposals of a suitable partner/sponsor who can make a bid for funding to the Education Funding Agency to establish an ASC Special Free School in Cheshire East.
