· To champion the adopted policy of this Council to become carbon neutral by 2027 and to provide positive support and constructive challenge to Members and officers in driving forward the Council’s agenda on Environment & Climate Change
· Raise the profile of this area of work within the Council and outside the council E.g. act as a council spokesperson on issues relevant to this area of work where appropriate e.g. be quoted in relevant press releases and attendance/participation at relevant events where appropriate.
· Highlight good practice and opportunities in the area to officers and senior members which may be able to be adopted by the council.
· Seek to ensure that climate and environmental consideration is taken fully into account when council is developing wider policy or making decisions.
· To work collaboratively with other relevant council champions where there is an overlap of interest.
· Engage with relevant external bodies, NGOs and community/voluntary groups with an interest/stake in Cheshire East.
· Engage with relevant officers in relation to the champion role.
· To feedback Council activities (relevant to the role) and to explain the Council's position on specific issues of concern to relevant organisations/stakeholders.
· To acts as a point of contact in communicating the views of relevant organisations to officers and elected members.
· To foster good relations with other elected members with a specific interest in the area irrespective of political party to build support for action.
