The Corporate Overview and
Scrutiny Committee will have all relevant overview and scrutiny
powers under Section 21 of the Local Government Act
2000. Its membership will include the
Chairman and Vice-Chairman of all the Council’s overview and
scrutiny committees.
Its tasks will include scrutiny
of the Council’s corporate core; to ensure the other overview
and scrutiny committees operate in a coherent and integrated
manner; act as an informal discussion forum with the Cabinet
regarding the work programmes and priorities of all the overview
and scrutiny committees; undertake work which does not fall within
the remit of any of the overview and scrutiny committees; decide on
which committee shall take the lead on cross-cutting issues or
undertake the task itself; drive
forward the Council’s overview and scrutiny function; act as
a sounding board for matters of common interest across all the
overview and scrutiny committees and, where necessary, review their
workloads; co-ordinate the formal consultation response to the
draft budget proposals on behalf of all the overview and scrutiny
committees.
